HEAL Speakers’ Bureau
Thank you for your interest in the HEAL Trafficking Speakers’ Bureau. The HEAL Speakers’ Bureau connects expert speakers with organizations to train on safe and effective public health and health care responses to trafficking. Our speakers can engage with audiences in a variety of ways, including keynote speeches, presentations, and panel discussions. We offer two different presentation packages to best suit the needs of your event:
- Human Trafficking 101 – This is our standard training and includes a 60-90 minute session covering:
- Education on labor and sex trafficking
- How to identify victims of human trafficking
- Education on trauma and survivor-informed care
- Information specific to your locale such as relevant local resources, trends, and examples
- Resources related specifically to human trafficking education and awareness, including resources for victims and survivors
- What assessment tools are available and how they can be used
- Specialized Human Trafficking Training – This is our customized training, which includes everything from the Human Trafficking 101 training in addition to:
- The opportunity to customize your training to a specific demographic (i.e. rural communities, BIPOC communities, etc.) or speaker expertise (i.e. a speaker with emergency medicine expertise, pediatric care expertise, etc.)
- The opportunity to extend the training beyond the standard 60-90 minutes
Please note: final speaker fees will be determined following a review of the request
Request a Speaker
If you are interested in having a member(s) of the HEAL Trafficking Speakers’ Bureau present at your event, please fill out this form with the details of your request.
You will hear back from the Director of Education within 10 business days to confirm the information you provided, as well as to provide you with the next steps in order to assign a speaker for your event.
Please note that the HEAL Speakers’ Bureau includes members with a diversity of experiences, including lived experience of trafficking, and identities, including immigrants, BIPOC individuals, and LGBTQIA2S+ individuals. HEAL expects speaking event hosts to ensure adequate planning to prevent or promptly address instances of harm toward our speakers, including discrimination or harassment. Please be prepared to provide HEAL with your policies or plans surrounding how you will prevent and address discrimination and/or harassment at your event. For additional assistance in this area, please refer to these Event Host Guidelines.
For more information, please review our Speakers’ Bureau FAQ below.
Speakers’ Bureau FAQ:
- How far in advance should I request a speaker?
The earlier you submit your speaker request, the higher the likelihood that HEAL will be able to fulfill your request. The latest you may submit our Speaker Request Form is no later than ten weeks prior to your event.
- Can I request a specific speaker?
You may request a specific speaker using our Speaker Request Form. However, please note that final speaker assignments are contingent upon speakers’ availability and requesting a specific speaker does not guarantee their assignment to your event.
- How long is the typical presentation?
Presentations are typically 60-90 minutes in length but may vary depending on the set-up of a given event.
- Do you allow for virtual presentations?
We do! If you are planning a virtual event, please indicate this when you fill out the Speaker Request Form.
- Do you work with survivor speakers?
Yes. Our priority is for all speaker events in which HEAL participates to include someone with a lived experience of trafficking. HEAL has taken Freedom United’s Survivor Alliance Pledge to work ethically with survivors of human trafficking. For additional information, please refer to these Event Host Guidelines.
- I am interested in joining the HEAL Speakers’ Bureau. How do I apply?
The HEAL Speakers’ Bureau welcomes the addition of new expert speakers. If you are interested in serving as a speaker for HEAL, please email education@healtrafficking.org to request a Speakers’ Bureau application.
- What if I can’t afford the speaker fees?
We have a limited number of scholarships available, pending availability and organization eligibility (non-profit status and an operating budget of less than $500,000), to assist with speaker fees. If you are interested in applying for a scholarship, please complete the event request form as well as the scholarship application form, which can be found at the end of the event request form once completed. Note that if you indicate on your Speakers’ Bureau event request form that you intend to apply for a scholarship, your event request will not be reviewed until both your event request form and scholarship application form have been received.
