Managing Trafficking in the Pediatric ED

“Human trafficking is a hot topic these days, but what is it really and what is the emergency medicine (EM) clinician’s role in caring for these patients? ….the care of pediatric patients warrants special consideration in the clinical discussion of human trafficking. Here we review two vignettes, based on real patients with a trafficking experience, to highlight some of those important considerations.”

This article discusses the role of emergency medicine practitioners when they encounter child labor in the context of human trafficking. It uses real world examples and statistics to describe how a emergency physician should operate within their role to provide high-quality pediatric care.
