Letter in Response to the Killing of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and Others
[June 2nd, 2020]
Dear HEAL community,
HEAL Trafficking stands in solidarity with human rights activists around the world. We are outraged and angered by the killing of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and so many others.
Systemic racism perpetuates violence and exploitation, including trafficking. The events this week are a reminder of how much more work we must do to realize freedom and justice for all. We must engage in systemic, sustained, and determined efforts to dismantle systems of inequality.
“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.”
– “Letter from Birmingham Jail,” April 16, 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Today, and everyday, we recommit to this shared struggle.
